Re: Previous owner '68

Looking good, I was hoping to eventually being able to take a drive up the road and lay eyes on this rig one of these days.. But things have taken a very positive turn for me and I am moving to Nashville.... Progress is looking nice though.

Nice, good luck in Nashville. Life has a way of working out if you just keep trying!

Keep hacking away! What brand replacement panels are you using? Most of them need a fair amount of massaging anyway to fit right. I've been using Key Parts on mine and so far they have required minimum hacking. :-)

Key Parts for most, I think the a and b pillars may be some other brand.

Re: Previous owner '68

Been working on the inner windshield area. Not fun, a lot of overhead welding and grinding. Hopefully near the end of the over head work.

Some duraglass and filler and she'll look fine.

Re: Previous owner '68

Thanks guys. It is a long seam, I probably spent 8 hours total spot welding, letting it cool, then grinding. The good thing is it has a curve in it so it resists warping, but I still took my time.

The only thing I worry about is pinholes. I spent quite a bit of time trying to make sure it is solid and I'm going to spread some duraglass on it so hopefully I won't have any problems.

I'm trying to think of a way to get through the visor hole and spray the back of the weld to help prevent rust.

Eastwood sells a long flexible nozzle for spray cans, made in Italy. It’s about 2 feet long

Started in on the door channels. Not too bad of an area to work on.

I also worked on the inner cab in the same areas. Hopefully this will get the worst of the rust repairs done and I can focus on welding up unwanted features.

Pretty sure this antennae hole started most of the rust problems with the cab. It sat in the weather for who knows how long with the hole in the roof. No hole anymore!

Finally got back from vacation and stated in on the firewall. Still have a long way to go as far as the cab is concerned. I hadn't really planned on spending so much time on the cab but sometimes the truck determines the timeline instead of me!

Also spent a few days building a pre-filter for my MrCool unit. Hopefully it will help it last longer, I generate a lot of dust!

Re: Previous owner '68

My 94 work truck started leaking trans fluid pretty bad so I decided to take a look at it. It had a bad pan leak and it turned out the transmission mount had collapsed and the trans pan was sitting on the cross-member! While working on it I found that the carrier bearing, 2 u-joints, and the rear seal were also bad. Finally got it all together and it is running as good as it always has.

Only took one pic, pretty boring stuff.

I have a 25X25 steel building garage, It is insulated. Was thinking about one of those mini split units for it...
How big of an area is yours cooling/heating?

Re: Previous owner '68

The area I'm using it in is 24x30 with a 10 foot ceiling. I've been impressed by it, today it's 98 outside and 71 inside. When it got below zero for a week this winter it kept it at 68. It's a 24k unit, you need around 35 btu's per square foot so you would need a 21k-23k unit, might as well get the 24k.

I installed it 3 years ago and finally got around to building a pre-filter for it. If you are doing the kinda stuff I am it needs one.

Awesome job getting after the rust repairs on the cab!
You Sir have skills, and a lot of ambition.
I was trying to catch up on some other portions of your thread, but when I try it tells me “ the server is too busy”
I’ll have to try again later

I'd have been better starting with a better cab but they are hard to find. I like the idea of repairing something most people would have scrapped but the truth is it is wearing me out!
