White Wall Help With Stains

I need help with cleaning or removing these stains on my white walls. I made the mistake of leaning one tire onto the other while I had them removed from the truck. I have tried just about everything and I cant get the stains out. I'm starting to regret putting white walls on. I have used just about all the white wall cleaners out there and sos pads. Short of painting or putting shoe polish on I don't know what to use. Thanks

Have you tried baking soda?

Bleach is a last resort, It will work most of the time.

Re: White Wall Help With Stains

I just got off the phone with a Coker Tire rep and he told me to lightly sand the area with fine sandpaper. He said what has happened is the carbon that is used to make rubber black leeched into the white. He said depending on how long the tires were resting on one another I might be able to get it out. I have scrubbed and scrubbed with purple scotch bright pads and SOS pads. I am going to try the sand paper. These white walls are cool looking but what a pain.

Re: White Wall Help With Stains

Westley used to sell a white-wall cleaner named 'Blech-White" (and yes that's spelled correctly.) I see the same product now marketed by 'Black Magic"

Back in the day, it was a really good whitewall cleaner, but I bought some a couple years ago and it wasn't near a potent as I'd remembered.

My other go-to whitewall cleaner is BonAmi in the powder can. (liberated from my wife's stash of cleaners under the kitchen sink) It has pumice in it that acts as an abrasive. I use a brush intended for cleaning hands/fingernails by just dumping a small pile of BonAmi powder on the concrete and dipping the wet brush into it. A little wasteful but it is pretty cheap. Bartender's Friend might work too, but BonAmi has more aggressive pumice I think.

For a bit heavier stains, I've used SOS pads with good results.

I bought a set of Uniroyal 'Tiger Paw' whitewalls for a old Jag I had. I scrubbed the dickens out of the whitewalls to get them to look halfway decent, but within a week were dingy brown from the oils in the rubber leaching back into the whitewall.

I had some luck with a little acetone on a white scotchbrite pad which seemed to knock-back the leaching a little, but ultimatly they'd still go from white to brownish-white.

I tried the BonAmi with a SOS pad and not any luck. Yeah the new white wall cleaning products are not any good and the Coker Tire rep I talked to didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling about the product they sell. All this eco friendly crap is just that. Crap. Thanks

I think that is about the only real fix with those when they get a stain.

The material for white walls they use now isn't the same as what we had back in the day. You can still pull an old white wall tire out or of the shed where it has been for 30 years and take an SOS pad or Bleach White to it and they usually scrub right up.
