1957 Chevy 3100 Rear Spring Front Bushing

I am starting the process of swapping out rear springs in my '57 3100. The "new" springs are from a '59 3100. I had ordered (from a reputable company) new pins and shackles in preparation of this. When getting the new front pin kits out I noticed the bushings looked short. They are 1-3/4" long versus the springs being 2" wide. I assumed they would match. Anyone experience this and if so what did you do? Am I missing something? I don't see where any seals are used. Any help is appreciated. TIA!

I would call your supplier and ask them if they can supply the correct bushings

This is the shackle kit that the filling station shows for the rear https://store.fillingstation.com/det...ACKLE_KIT.html

They show this bushing at 1.940 long 0.875 OD 0.685 ID https://store.fillingstation.com/det...E_BUSHING.html

I think this is their pin and bushing kit for the rear spring .

Some kits that show for a lot of years may have 1-3/4 bushings to fit the early springs and close gets by on the wider springs saving have to make separate kits.

Re: 1957 Chevy 3100 Rear Spring Front Bushing

Thanks for the responses. I have been in contact with the supplier and they have been very cooperative and came to the conclusion the bushing 1.75" long is what they have. As mr48 states it's probably so they can have one kit to cover more models. I also contacted a spring company and the dimensions shown in the Filling Station (I need to put that site on my frequently visited ones for truck parts!) bushing description matches what it should be and what I have (at least on the ID and OD). The spring company also stated the bushing should be brass too so you don't have wear on the pin and should match the spring width. The part number I found out that is all brass for this is "HEC". Still going to do a little more investigation but your replies have helped. Thanks!

Something to consider, you can take the OEM number from the filling station and search that online.

The only thing when ordering from the filling station is that if you are in a hurry you should contact them and make sure that they actually have the part on the shelf before ordering. I ordered a park light lens for my 77 one ton and it took several weeks to show up and I figure that they ordered it in on a stock order. It is a very high quality item though.

I checked Rock Auto but they don't show much for suspension pieces for 57 or 59. The good with them is that if you are in a hurry they show the part numbers and you can usually get them through a local parts house.

Re: 1957 Chevy 3100 Rear Spring Front Bushing

I called The Filling Station asking about the bushing material on the ones they had. He went and grabbed one and said it was all brass so they were in stock and I ordered 2. But thanks for the heads up mr48 as that makes a lot of sense to ask. Rock Auto seems to have reduced their inventory for these trucks over the past couple of years it appears.

Rock Auto has been not replacing a lot of parts for older rigs as they get hard to find or more expensive. Probably because main line manufactures such as Moog have discontinued them.

I've bought a lot of chassis parts from them over the years because they have name brands for a reasonable price for a lot of my rigs.

Re: 1957 Chevy 3100 Rear Spring Front Bushing

I think I am set after receiving the new bushings from the filling Station. Original vendor offered up to provide return and shipping label for parts. I bought a complete pin kit but just planning on returning just the bushings. Will keep y'all posted on the outcome. Thanks again for the input.
