Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Is the steering stable? I am getting quite tired of my leaf sprung front end. I have all this power but cannot use it because the front is very unstable.

It does pretty well. almost like stock however i have a bit too tall of springs (1 ton coils) in it at the moment so my camber is slightly off. . I plan to put a standard spring in it which will allow it to align perfectly and it will prob drive even better.

I want to convert to 4x4. it makes it much worse in your opinion?

4X4 Parts for a C10 are like 3 times the cost of decent 2wd parts. I Rarely Drive Offroad (were talking grass, beaches and my parents desert property in AZ). If this was not my daily driver and if I did not live in a heavy winter area, I would 100% already be 2wd.

I have a 402CI gen 5 LT motor (L8T 6.6 liter) with what should be near 600hp. I am frightened to death of driving this thing spiritedly. Steering roams a lot even with the upgraded steering box. Mine has the added benefit of riding like crap. The springs that were installed in front by the previous owner are definitely rough.

I come from a lowered truck background though. This is my first solid axle front truck (outside of military service). I am used to decent to great handling IFS front setups. So I am probably never going to really be happy with it.

I am stuck between making the decision to fully upgrade the suspension up front or going 2wd. I am about to leave the house to go look into a chassis from a 88-91 tahoe. I want to figure out if I can fabricate a full front crossmember setup that I can bolt the 4x4 clip out of the tahoe into the Blazer. I would love to keep the 4wd but have IFS for the ride quality and stability. My real goal is to have a low-ish AWD/4WD K5 with over 800hp. I am seeking 72 K5 Blazer with Trackhawk capability. Think if Chevy would have made a lowered K5 with AWD and a bunch of power. Yes I may be dreaming but dreaming is where big accomplishments start.

This guy in this video of a square body is what I am after. I do not need to be as low but I would pee my pants to be able to make my K5 do what his C10 does. I do not need the same power that he has though. I would also like to do it without cutting my frame in half like he did to add the escalade front clip.

That C10 is pretty cool. I'd be looking for an Escalade. Mod the frame to fit the Blazer body.

I just realized that I did not answer your question. I never drove a 2wd C10 or Blazer. All I know is that I have driven many cars. This leaf sprung Blazer handles and rides the worst. Hell, I was military for 23 years and never drove a vehicle that rode worse. Steering wanders around more than all the old cars I have driven. I cannot imagine that it will ever be possible to make leaf springs and solid axles as stable as even a mediocre ifs setup. I assume this is why most 4wd cars are ifs these days.

I love my Blazer but I did not put all this motor in it to NOT use it. I am going 2wd.
I am just very torn as I really like the ride up high.

With all the power of this cammed 6.6liter, my Blazer is kind of scary though. I would never be able to take a quick evasive manuver because it steers terrible.
