Battery cable routing

Looking for battery cable routing 66 C20. The ones on the truck were aftermarket and suspect.
Positive: I've identified the lead to horn relay and routing but main cable I'm finding 2 possibilities. Assembly manual suggests frame routing but not sure what year that is. I also see a reference to a clip on the oil pan elsewhere.
Ground: Assuming to block but not sure where, there are 2 holes on passenger front of cylinder head. On cable there is short (12-15") #10 wire with eyelet.
Here is picture

Re: Battery cable routing

Probably the best original examples are these Lambrecht auction trucks with 2-5 original miles on them .The first picture here was the black 1966 with the blue 250 six truck. The positive cable came up from the starter and over to the inner fender and was routed along the bottom of the inner fender with a black plastic loops that attached to the inner fender in existing holes . You will have to copy these photos and expand them. The negative cable bolted to the side of the head as shown in these pictures .

Is it the lighting in your picture ? Or am I seeing Green engine paint on that 250 ? Should be blue. Also the control arms should be all black .

Re: Battery cable routing

Those pictures are awesome thank you. Regarding engine color and control arms. Paint is greenish blue, we matched it off original paint on valve cover (we buffed paint to get true color)
Control arms yes I typically am seeing black painted but this is very original truck with riveted ball joints. Beautiful bare metal under ball joints and rebound bumpers. Can't explain but certain its the way it came

Well Id have to disagree on those two colors. Picture one above with that black firewall is a 1966 250 with 3 miles on it , no green on that engine or any of the 230 250 sixes. Books also say blue for those engines. Control arm paint is definitely black originally . Parts were painted individually before installation and in many cases a coat of black was sprayed on the underside of the truck after assembly . Here's some VERY low mile 100% original survivor chassis pictures. One is a 900 mile 1962 and the other is a member here with an extremely low mile 1966. On the 66 you can see evidence of black on the control arms and evidence of an assembled truck sprayed again after assembly by the shocks that are gray in 1966 . I would not disagree with you except I know your trying to do this as exact as possible. Not critiquing your work and dedication , just trying to help before it gets too late to fix.

No I don't take it negative at all and welcome the critique. I'm new to Chevy truck and only know what I see. In the Ford world I know there are plant differences and anomalies which is why I document everything. I appreciate your help very much

There’s a common denominator here though, ALL 60-66 Chevrolet truck engines were built at the same engine plant in Flint Michigan, so we can rule out engine Color on plant differences since it was all in one house .

Re: Battery cable routing

Also when control arms where painted black were ball joints and control arms in place? That would explain bare steel under ball joints

Ball joints were in place as the ball joint is also painted black. As for the engine color , Pontiac, I don't think is the same , from my limited Pontiac experience it was a lighter color than the Chevrolet blue . Not 100% if Corporate Chevy blue or the Blue Flame six blue is the same but leaning a little more towards Corporate blue which is the later 350 engine blue. That color is something I have not researched to get a color code on for these trucks and the pictures you find online are all different shades of blues.

Re: Battery cable routing

Pontiac blue is more blue than the Chevy Corporate blue. See pic of our 1955 Pontiac Starchief.

After cleaning the transmission and clutch bell housing, I found some turquise - blue residue and got it mixed by our local color shop. The transmission on the following page is painted in that tone which I suppose is the corporate blue. The RAL code is 6033

The transfer case in orange is original color, just cleaned.

Although I flipped and saved the pictures, they are still upside down... No matter how they look like on my computer....

Someone before you painted that transmission . Engine color would be partially on the bell housing as overspray because the bellhousing was on the engine before it was painted. Transmissions were either natural cast color or black and were not painted with the engine as they were from two separate plants. The transfer case on a 4x4 is red oxide or Glyptal Red , not orange. Also looks like a Chevy orange engine ? Chevy orange was not used on any 1960-1966 trucks.

Re: Battery cable routing

Back to the black control arms. The cast-iron brackets that the upper control arms both to that are riveted to the front crossmember. Are those black as well?
