WTB: NOS Dome Light Assembly

Hi everybody. As the title says, I’m looking for an NOS dome light assembly with the chrome base. I’m pretty sure the part number is 8912749. Anybody have one they would sell?

Never saw an original dome lamp with a chrome base. They all had white bases with the opaque lens.

Here is an NOS GM part with the number you provided:

Re: WTB: NOS Dome Light Assembly

I bought one that is 8912749. The parts book reads "bright metal bezel". Couldn't tell you why some standard domes come up with the same number.

Red face Re: WTB: NOS Dome Light Assembly

That description is incorrect too. It is chrome plated plastic.

True story. Makes me wonder if they were ever metal.

Could be a worse description and that. For the life of me I can't figure out why GM sold two different sets of paint divider moldings under the same part numbers. Maybe they just packaged them wrong, or even the book is wrong too, and they didn't realize it until too late.

The 50’s model version was definitely metal. It’s slightly different in design on the back but the front looks very close. I knew these existed for 67-72 because I saw where you used one in your build thread, Tony. Well, here’s to hoping I can still get my hands on one. Appreciate all the info guys! Looking hard!!!

My 1972 Cheyenne Super originally had a white base lamp. I replaced it with a repro chrome base part since it looks more at home in the top-of-the-line trimmed truck.

Seems it was installed as a replacement. Far as I know Z62 and above trim got interior bling, aka "bright metal".

More plausible, that it was a mistake from the factory, which was common then. The truck was totally untouched when I purchased it in 2006. I replaced it with a plastic chrome unit, which is correct.

Re: WTB: NOS Dome Light Assembly

I owned a 1972 Cheyenne Super that I purchased from the original owner in 2005. It was also basically untouched. Its dome light was not chrome.

Thumbs up Re: WTB: NOS Dome Light Assembly

Thank you for the pic, Patrick. Mine was built in Flint, and yours was a Fremont.

Re: WTB: NOS Dome Light Assembly

On the opposite end of the spectrum, my base-model 1971 K/10 Custom has a chrome dome light bezel that has very little chrome left on it. This truck has been messed with extensively, so there's no telling if this is original or not. Either way, the quality of that chrome is not impressive. The A/C center vent frames have this same problem.

Re: WTB: NOS Dome Light Assembly

My K20 had chrome when I bought it. Definitely crusty old peeling chrome original… it’s a late 72 Cheyenne Janesville truck.
