47-55.1 Custom Cab Stainless trim Install around windows

When Installing the Custom Cab Stainless around the new window gasket
what is the order of event?

Is it gasket to cab, stainless in its channel, then glass via rope?

For those of you that have done it is it a PITA?

Or does it go pretty well?

I've done it in an fj40 and it was very simple, the hard part was getting the glass out
because of the extremely hard gasket! It also had no stainless trim!
That was many years ago to boot.

IIRC, I put the stainless trim in the rubber, then the glass in the rubber then the whole assembly into the truck. Lots of lube.u

I didn't have much luck with the rope trick.

I ended up raiding the kitchen drawer and took some plastic handled spatulas and shaped them on the belt sander to use as tools to work the rubber around. It eventually went in but it had a bit of a pucker in the corners.

I tried moving the glass more to the corners by striking it with my hand but was afraid I'd break the glass (I actually did break the rear glass)

I found a place in town that said they did glass on classic cars, and I drove the truck over there. They poped the windshieild out, determined that the glass wasn't quite the right size, modified it slightly and put it back in. Took them about half an hour, Was the best use of $100 I'd had in quite a while.

FWIW, they installed the glass the same way I had - trim in rubber, glass in rubber then installed in the truck

The rope trick works, have done it a few times. You need the right rope though, braded, somewhere between 1/8 and 3/16, strong, smooth with a hard finish.

I found a small ball ended glass tool very useful for pulling the edge over.

There always seems to be "that guy" who works or has worked in an autoglass shop who has done glass work = windshield installs as side jobs in just about every town I have been around. A lot of farm and industrial equipment uses similar rubber for the flat glass so those guys are still around.

I looked in the online pfd of the service manual yesterday and they tell you to use the cord trick. They also say to use 3M weatherstrip adhesive.

I've found that a pack of those plastic "trim and upholstery" tools are pretty handy and can be modified by sanding them.

I looked through my records and can't find it, but they were in north Phoenix.

I googled "windshield classic phoenix" and a handful of places came up that said they did glass for classic cars, but none of them rung a bell for me. Sorry.

You might try giving Charly's Hot Rod shop in Mesa and see who they use for their glass work. Same thing with Copperstate Classic Cars in Phoenix

Got it, i know of a few places in the valley, it just sounded like you used someone
in Showlow there, and that is why i was asking. figured i would trailer my rig up there if someone was up there is all, instead of having to haul to the Valley.
