Over the top K30 swap

Since I have referenced this site a ton lately I figured I would share my build, maybe theres some info people can use.
I brought home a 71 k20 with an alaskan camper about a year and a half ago. Its been in Helena its whole life. It came with all the original documents, the camper was installed when it was 2 months old in Seattle. From there Im pretty sire they drove it to Alaska since there is a notebook in the glovebox with peoples addresses and info in Alaska. There was also maps for alaska and Alberta, along with everything else that was original in the camper. Fly rods, tools, spare parts, shaving kit, e evrything. Unfortunately didnt find a hidden 45/70 or revolver anywhere.
My goal was 4wd and able to haul.the camper and tow my buggy. My 02 dodge is getting old, I hate new junk so this will be my adventure rig.
Starting point.....

Re: Over the top K30 swap

Its a pretty clean old truck. Need outer rockers and a small floor patch, definitely cant complain.
The frame on the other hand...has definitely had a hard life.

Re: Over the top K30 swap

I have a few old trucks and when I built my 68 I boxed the frame, what a game changer. So that was the first order of business on this haggard old frame. I threw a couple holes in to strengthen it up. Ok 74 to be exact...

Couple shots of my buggy with 68 skins I plan to tow with this truck. My kid and I built the others in the pics too.

Great project and cool buggies. That will be a sweet setup as a tow and camping rig.

Very cool. What thickness is the material you used for boxing?

Re: Over the top K30 swap

I dont like the bolt in options for ls swap crossmembers so made ine that has a removable center in case the lan ever needs to ne dropped. And added a box tube one out back.

Re: Over the top K30 swap

I started by modifying the trans crossmember for the pos AA nv4500 adapter but ended just starting from scratch and building a new one.
