What would you do? Triming rear bulkhead

QUESTION: Final trimming on the rear panel will have either a 1/2 to 3/4 spacing between the dmax and 66 corner panels ooorrrr shaped in a crescent on the edge of the dmax panel as is stock on the 2008. First way is stronger, the only reason not to is for not letting rain water drain and start rust in the veeeerrrry long future (I plan to pass this truck onto my kids once I absolutely can't drive anymore) I might be over thinking this.....

I've got no answer but I just don't understand what you have going on there. I guess I don't get why you did it either.
