Re: Front Leaf Spring Caster Shim Install

The good news is that the symptoms match the cause. More caster will help both the returing to center, and straight line tracking.

Re: Front Leaf Spring Caster Shim Install

Gonna try to fix it this weekend if I have time. I’ll keep you all posted. I did read further down and now I see the change in direction of the shim. I should have read on.

You'll notice a huge difference when you spin that tapered shim around. Yeah, I wish I could delete that post I made back then. That will teach me to try and go off of memory. Sorry about that.
looking forward to hearing your results.

Re: Front Leaf Spring Caster Shim Install

I was able to turn them around. Now I just need to finish my tank install and I can drive it.

Re: Front Leaf Spring Caster Shim Install

Drove it today and much better. Return to center and it tracks real straight. It’s a little stiff but I think it will loosen up in time. Last item will be the sway bar. I’ll likely have that done by summer. Thank you guys for the help. It’s always appreciated.

Yes, you cannot delete. But maybe an edit to look at additional posts or something else you want to add? Looked into some my very old posts and the edit option seems availble.

Cool! Going from zero degrees caster to six should be something to notice.

Re: Front Leaf Spring Caster Shim Install

It will take more steering effort with more caster, that is the compromise.

Awesome!
Hopefully you'll notice a huge improvement in handling also once you install an anti-sway bar.
On most vehicles, adding an anti-sway bar would not change the way the vehicle feels going down the road, but the unique way the bar is mounted to the axle on these Blazers (no end links) made an improvement (for me anyway) by not relying solely on the springs to hold the axle in place.

Re: Front Leaf Spring Caster Shim Install

Yeah the sway bar is on my list. I’m going to do the work when I have time. I’ll update once I get there. I’m glad the steering issue is solved.
