weatherstrip magic

Hello all,

Feels like all aftermarket weather stripping is either too big, too stiff or both

The other day i grabbed stripping from an 02 (CORRECTION 92-97) suburban and guess what?

It cost 5$ and fit great, trimmed a little and the door shuts with ease.

The aftermarket for my truck measures .850" diameter with a .115 wall
the OE 2002 measures ~.700 with a .085 wall.

I will test drive this week and unless it whistles or water comes in I will be grabbing some more next time I am at the pick a pull i will grab enough to replace the other.

Cheers,
Chris

Re: weatherstrip magic

How much did you have to trim off? Also, I’m assuming that the front doors from the OBS went to the front doors of your square?

I cut off 6 inches from the OBS driver door to fit the front driver door of the square body. I have not done the rears.

The truck i scavenged was in good shape. All the rubber was almost perfect.

All 4 doors for 11$.

Re: weatherstrip magic

Update,

The rear doors of the 90s GMT400 burb are long enough for our rear doors.

all four door will fit with a little trimming. Not sure if buying new GMT400 trim would be fat and stiff. If someone purchases one day maybe they can chime in.

I got lucky finding all good rubber. many of the driver doors were toast.

Can't believe i have been dealing with the aftermarket garbage for so long and this took an hour to swap.

Cheers,
Chris

Re: weatherstrip magic

Thanks for the info! I will have to keep an eye out next time I'm at the pic n pull and try it for myself. My 78 needs door seals bad but wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money on new seals till after I repaint the truck in the near future.
