OK, thought I would post a new thread here with pics to show progress on some of the work I am doing, show off how it looks so far, and to ask questions about future work on it. This forum is full of useful information, so I know I'll be asking alot of questions. But, here are a few pics to show the beast that I am talking about:

What's going on there VortexofPain. Just wandering what flavor of yellar you sportin on the ole Jimmy. Also the trim you have around the windows, where can I get the trim? I have a 62 Chemmy and need the custom trim?

nice gmc custom. i also have a gmc custom, but mine is a 63' and still has the v6 in it, only thing i'm missing is the custom emblem behided the doors. anyways nice gmc custom

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I wish I could say I did alot of this work but I bought it mostly like this. I am however planning on doing a complete frameup next summer on it, to get rid of problems and rust areas, etc.

OK, here is one thing that I just don't get. In nearly all of these trucks Powersteering meant you had a pump, steering box, and linkage etc. that looks pretty much the same from truck to truck. This GMC though, has a setup that I have never seen. It is power steering, but I don't know why it doesn't feel the same as other setups, which is why this is the next area I'm redoing. As shown in these pics, my box does not look like a larger PS box, and I have alot more tubes/hydralics than other trucks which I don't understand...

What can I do to improve this? Take all the normal parts from another truck?

That is an early powersteering setup , it was used all the way till 67 I belive then in 68 they came out with the setup they used all the way till 87 with just the pump and box, thats a cool peice but they are prone to leaking very badly, when you do your frame off it would be a good time to install disc brake and power steering from a newer model ,

and your truck rocks looks damn good , !

Nice looking ride! The power steering setup is very similar to what is in 82 and older Corvettes, the piston and such may interchange. Or you could do like Slammed66 did, and kill two birds with one stone.

Beautiful truck man. I still have a soft spot for the 60-66 body style, I drove a 66 Chevy Custom for many years.

As someone else asked, what is the name of the yellow? It looks sharp on there.

Thanks, I love the body style too - obviously. I am not sure, the P.O. had it painted but I believe it is Canary Yellow. These pictures were taken on an overcast day, when the sun is out the color is so vivid your eyes hurt after washing it!

That steering is a power assist style used on vettes of late 60's to 81 I believe. They are prone to leaking and expensive to repair. I had to replace mine and all the lines $$$. I would upgrade the front to discs and power steering and do away with it for both cost and reliability reasons. Do NOT trash that unit, someone will want it.
