Re: ClusterTruck; because that’s what it is
Now it was time to hang the fenders so they could get painted along with the doors and cab corners.
It’s really starting to look like something at this point!

Re: ClusterTruck; because that’s what it is
Now it was time to get it assembled enough to trailer home.
And maybe take a quick zip around the shop with Dave. It’s such a cool and bright color, I’m pumped to have it together-ish.

Re: ClusterTruck; because that’s what it is
Thanks, it's been a challenging color. We decided to paint the orange over white to give it more pop. The formula says to put it over gray. We're thinking that the white base is what's made it so sensitive. So much light reflects back thru it that you can see any variation. In the direct sun, you can definitely notice a difference depending on the angle of the panel surface. An open door looks a slight shade different than the fender it's next to because of the light angle going thru the color. Conveniently that works out to where the interior color looks fine. The distance and varying shapes of the jambs disguise it pretty well. The soft touch matte clear interior also helps.
Dave says it paints and looks like a candy, just minus the metallic solids. To turn back the clock, we would have probably chosen a gray base, but it all worked out in the end. Thanks, it'll be a good winter project to get it gapped and fitted. Spring will be color sand and polish as well as bed liner. Thanks, it has that fresh paint scent also.

Re: ClusterTruck; because that’s what it is
The weather here has been decent for the past few weeks so I got some trim installed.
The grille hoops went on ok, but the repop is definitely not as robust as the original. The front bumper is an old original I got from Sergio, who got it from a neighbor. It’s in ok condition and will definitely do for now. The rear is repop, and not anywhere near as thick. Just bolting in the license mount bowed it slightly. I guess that’s just how it goes.

Re: ClusterTruck; because that’s what it is
I have been driving it a bit. I’ve done some initial adjustments on the tune to build in a rich biased safety margin. I increased the whole VE table by 5% and everything above 3k rpm by more. So far I haven’t seen any lean conditions in my logs yet, but I haven’t gone much over 4k or 75% throttle. I will need to get my wideband in before I can get close to WOT safely.
That said, the power is definitely there and I’ve enjoyed just driving it around. It’s got about 150 miles on it now.

Re: ClusterTruck; because that’s what it is
Each time I drive, I take a peek and check for leaks. At about 140 miles I saw some drips from the speedometer cable area.
It was the ford to GM cable drive adapter. The TKO uses one of these and I think the TKX does too. I didn’t know there was a good one and a crappy one. Seems I bought the crappy one. It doesn’t have a seal of any sort on the output shaft. Makes no sense to me and I’m surprised it didn’t leak sooner. I got the good one as a replacement and will keep an eye on it. It has 2 o-rings on the body and a seal on the output. The first 2 pics are the old, the next 2 are the new.

Re: ClusterTruck; because that’s what it is
I've been doing some more cruising as weather and clean road conditions permit. I've adjusted some of my VE table off of long term trims and it has gone well. The LS pcm is definitely more capable than the TBI systems. The adjustments are much closer and happen faster. I've briefly ventured into WOT under 5k and it's not gone lean on me yet.
One thing I have noticed is my factory temp gauge doesn't read high enough with the F body 3 pin sensor. I was looking thru LockDoc's build and saw his solution. I gave it a try with some jumper wires and various resistors and now my gauge is at the mid point at 200deg. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...&postcount=570 Thanks to LockDoc for the solution. I tried different resistors in the other terminals where the factory 90ohm resistor lives, but the results weren't great. The 150ohm bridging the sensor and ground terminals looks like the fix. Unfortunately now I'll have to pull the cluster again. Oh well, it keeps me busy.
