Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
and the truck is not starting right up like it use to. The regulator is only about 8 months old and about 500 miles on it. This is the second Edelbrock regulator to do this to me.
Have any of you guys had this problem? |

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
My "guess" is a bad diaphram....I had a cheapy summit or? regulator with very few miles
that started leaking for no apparent reason. I always run non-ethanol fuel so it wasn't a fuel problem. I replaced it with an Aeromotive regulator and never looked back. We also installed a Pro-Flo Edelbrock fuel injection package on my sons truck a few years back using an Aeromotive regulator and it has been trouble free. I know they're expensive but worth it in my book. Please let us know how it works out. |

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
Checking Aeromotive right now....Thanks! I have their fuel pressure gauge on my Edelbrock regulator.
On phone "Hold" with Aeromotive right now.... I will be calling Edelbrock to see what they have too.... Ok....Talked to Alex at Aeromotive, that guy gave me A Lot of his time! In conclusion to our phone call, Before dropping $350 on a new regulator. Check the specs on the psi different fuel pumps are putting out!!! Ideally I want to find one if possible that pumps out no more than 6 psi, but over 10 is not a good idea. And in his opinion, he couldn't understand how a fuel pump manufacturer could sell a pump to a carbureted system that puts out 10+ psi... I'll Be Back.....and Merry Christmas ! Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
Ooooh, so the mechanical fuel pump I have on there now (Autozone house brand) is rated 7.5 to 9, and I *think on my gauge I saw 10 psi when I had it fully opened...
Yeah, and there are lower spec psi fuel pumps out there for a price...... It's Christmas I got things to do..... |

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
BTW! I'm talking Edelbrock Carb 1400 series and Performer intake, Chevy 350 Block w/points.
Yep, it's going to be an Edelbrock fuel pump it's rated at 6 psi output fuel pressure. Also in all the literature I've gone over it's said somewhere it's specifically for Chevy small blocks. I've read other manufacturers literature and specs (Holley, Carter, Mr. Gasket, Delco) and none are stating a definite 6 psi for GM application. I might be able to ditch the regulator altogether and Really, I should relax and think about this and finally build some PTFE A/N line and ditch that Gates gummy Shix fuel line! |

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
The Holley black pump I used was 10 psi so had to do the regulator. How are you checking your fuel pressure? I run an inline gauge with the Edelbrock carb and set to 5.5 psi.

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
I'm using an off the shelf autoparts store brand mechanical pump...it's either an Autozone or O'Reillys.......
The Aeromotive gauge is screwed into the Edelbrock regulator, the regulator and gauge are a combined one unit. Like this except no brass return nipple, I think it's what's called 'deadhead', no pressure return to the gas tank...and mine has rubber hose barbed connectors, I do want to change to those A/Ns someday.... Oh! and my gauge only goes up to about 20psi! reg.jpg |

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
i had the same issue, ran an off the shelf fuel pump with a regulator and gauge, finally broke down and bought the edelbrock fuel pump, still like the idea of using a gauge, its a Holley, also ran the an black line kit to clean up the engine bay
Good Luck

Man, that's a clean engine bay! Not having AC helps a lot with that, I guess. I like the pin stripes on the valve covers, too. My dad could pinstripe like that, free hand. I don't have that skill; I'm more of a 5 pound hammer kind of guy.

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
When I redo the fuel system on my truck I am going to try to use a fuel filter/regulator like this. There are a coupe of different applications but the Jeeps seem to be the most common. Generally they are for carbureted applications so a 5-9 psi regulator, but there might be TBI style efi filters too.
https://www.autozone.com/p/duralast-...store_set=true Now a follow up question, you have the regulator because the mechanical pump puts out too much pressure? I have always done regulators when adding an electric toggle pump to deal with vapor lock. Also, I like to use the nice efi/ethanol rated fuel line. There is less hassle when finding spare parts, is easier to deal with, and to me looks more at home under the hood of an old truck.

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
AI Overview
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) hose is generally considered superior to the Gates Barricade rubber hose for performance applications, especially with high-ethanol fuels like E85, due to its superior chemical resistance and virtually infinite lifespan in that environment. *Gates Barricade is an ethanol rated fuel line. I'm using it right now and it does get gooey. We've talked about this before. I Will be ditching it! |

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
For a carbed engine needing low fuel pressure, this is the pump you want. There are similar ones that do 6psi that cost a lot more. This one worked great for me but I did need to use a few extra fittings to fit it to my fuel lines. This one fit the bill when my old (correct psi) pump finally failed. The parts store pumps were all junk and put out way too much psi.
They also make a chrome version. Mine has been on for a year now and has worked just fine. It is much more reasonably priced than others that put out the correct psi. Edelbrock and Q-Jet carbs in particular don't like more than 8 psi. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tsn-jm1003bk

Darn!!! I bought the Edlebrock chrome one, it was close to $200!!! I haven't put it on yet, I wonder how much summit will charge me to switch it out? Thanks! |

Re: Edelbrock Fuel Pressure Regulator Noise (Buzzing)
Yeah, Edelbrock is typically pretty proud of their stuff. Summit is typically pretty good. If you haven't installed the pump and you didn't buy it a year ago, all it should cost you is the cost of return shipping.

I haven't even opened the shipping box the pump and other parts came in. I'm going to call Summit. I do see the fitting size inlet and outlet are different between the pump you got and my pump. I'm going to make some calls. Thanks! Update: I'm just going to keep what I have for now due to the 3/8 size throughout the 6AN PTFE setup I want to do. And I don't want to deal with shipping and restocking time and money...live and learn.....Thanks! Last edited by Loose Screw; 01-02-2026 at 03:35 PM. |
