rear fender
I need a new replacement left rear fender.
The original is not worth the cost of saving. So I need some recommendations of who sells the best quality reproductions. Any info would be appreciated.

Re: rear fender
Personally I would pay a premium for a really nice used one.
Wes at Classic Heartbeat in Olympia wants 489 for his and he is particular about the repro parts he sells.

Re: rear fender
Hello,
Your used fender will be at one of these places, merely a phone call and some shipping away. https://foreverpontiac.com/forums/to...comment-160433 Rick

Re: rear fender
We could probably find a good used fender within 100 miles if we did some hunting. The trouble is driving 100 miles to look at a fender and the "great fender" is worse than the one you don't want to have to fix.
If Wess has a fender in stock ready to go his shop is about 50 miles out of the way for Nvrdone's road trip to see family or an extra 100 or so miles. I have been there before but don't know how much inventory he keeps right now. Just snooping the other instate option that is a longer but doable in good weather road trip Chevs of the 40's wants 563 for theirs.

Re: rear fender
Chevys of the40's have 2 in stock but they are overseas made. The also want 285.00 for shipping to Yakima, so that's worth the 3 hr drive down to Vancouver WA to pickup.
Classic heartbeat wants $485.00 + $500.00 shipping so I think that's drop shipped from the mfg. They didn't return my call, so I will try again.

Re: rear fender
Wess is pretty much a one man operation. I was figuring that you could work a side trip down to Oly on one of your trips to the coast.
Also if he brought it in with a stock order that might save shipping if he didn't have it in stock. Shipping would be a deal breaker though. NPD wants 472.25 Plus shipping. As far as I know there are no US made fenders for AD trucks, all are stamped by one of about 3 places in Asia. There are a ton on Ebay with different prices and shipping costs all over the place including this one eBay item number:166931902917 https://www.ebay.com/itm/16693190291...Bk9SR7r6rpPhZg The ZM438XG is the Goodmark part number and Wess was selling Goodmark the last time I was at his shop.

Re: rear fender
Wes at Classic Heartbeat will be placing an order after the first of the year to be dropped at his shop. I can pick up the fender there and save the freight charges. So looks like a drive to Olyimpia is in my future.

Re: rear fender
That will work. You will probably figure out a few more things by then.

Re: rear fender
not sure if this is of any interest, it is not perfect, but the price is right and bare metal is not hiding anything. https://bellingham.craigslist.org/pt...901758052.html

Re: rear fender
There are still a lot of AD trucks sittng around and a lot of parts in the area where Nvredone and I live as we live about 25 miles apart and know a lot of the same people. Thing is I searched this valley far and wide for really nice parts 45 years ago and more and there weren't a lot of great parts then but a lot of farm or construction abused trucks that owners wanted too much money for and those trucks are often sitting in the same spot they were in 1980. I'll jump in the car or truck and head off a half day's drive for a part if the price is right and it is good enough. For us the other problem for years has been that guys from the west side where Nevrdone used to live have come over here where we are and searched out good parts long ago., I still have guys show up every once in a while wanting to play picker as they can see one of my AD trucks from the road.

Re: rear fender
Lee: thanks for the lead. Wonder how car fenders would look on a pickup? Kind of a different look.

Re: rear fender
it would be kinda cool, but you'd have to widen them. Car quarter panel extends to about mid point of tire, so fender is quite thin

Re: rear fender
Well, after a lot of research I finally decided to have a friend / fellow Vintiques member repair my rear fender. After doing a close look over we found out it's not as bad as I thought. It only needs one patch which we can cut out of the spare fender I have.
We will start on it in about 2 weeks when Mike gets back from vacation. I'm excited to start doing some needed work on the truck. On the list is new door seals, Trique door locks, replace intake manifold seal, re seal trans tail shaft, cab mounts, exhaust system and what ever else I might find. Wish me luck.

Re: rear fender
got a pic f the old fender? just curious where the bad spot is. you could likely make a patch fairly easy out of flat sheet and hammer/dolly it to get the required crown/

Re: rear fender
don't have pictures but the damage is on the lip about 6" long on the curve at the rear of the fender. It'd been that way since I bought the truck. Looks like it got hit & some one filled it with bondo which fell out.
The replacement fender that I got has had some repairs done but they were brazed in instead of welded. I've seen some of the rusted out bodies that Mike has restored and they are fantastic so I think this is a good way to go.
