Oh Sh!t grab handles

Anyone have a good lead on where to find such things like this one on the right hand A Pillar? I could machine one from aluminum but I’m looking for period correct part.

Re: Oh Sh!t grab handles

I remember seeing someone on here who had some nos dealer installed outside handles that were supposed to be mounted below the drip rail, but never seen any for the inside. The one in the picture looks nice. I'd like to find a pair for my 72 k10 with a 4in lift with 35s.

I like the ones jeffahart used on his pillars, about as period correct as your going to get.

Re: Oh Sh!t grab handles

I have one just like Blazerman's, above the door frame. Only mine's brass plated. Came from Ace Hardware.
I put it on, years ago, to help my aged Mom get in the cab. She's gone now, but she lived to be 102.

Re: Oh Sh!t grab handles

Those GM handles were for the square body medium duty B-pillars. I had sets in my stash for the gold '84s I had, but never installed. I had a chicken bar, as we called them, that Dick Cepek sold I mounted on the dash across the glove box door, up high so door would open, on a few Blazers and K/20s. They were chrome tube and I slid foam pipe insulation over them. They were much like the handicap grab bars that can be found to buy, but these bolted from behind into the bar ends. Lowe's sells nice hefty grab handles much like those GM handles. Also check marine supply houses for nice hardware and surface mount items like these, tiedowns, bedrails, etc

x2 on checking marine supply houses. It's the only place where you are likely to find REAL stainless, and there are about 1000 different kinds to choose from.

Re: Oh Sh!t grab handles

I'm a firm believer with installing some grab handles.
Especially on the driver side to keep you from using the steering wheel to get in.

Re: Oh Sh!t grab handles

My friend had a VW fan with wipers named Spaz and Lurch, and it had a lord-please-save-me bar

Re: Oh Sh!t grab handles

That looks just like ones I have had in various semi tractors. They were all factory installed so check with the Freightliner, Mack, Pete, Kw ect. dealer parts dept.

Re: Oh Sh!t grab handles

My homemade grab handle fabbed out of 1/2" stainless tubing with a couple of 90 degree bends, crushed the ends in a vise, ground the edges smooth and drilled a couple holes. Marked the A pillar then drilled and tapped for 1/4"x20 bolts.
Roughly 8" long. Plenty strong, no flex at all.
