Re: Hank - 63 C10 Build
Got the last major patch in the floor done. I opened up the area above the cab support a little more than I needed to to be able to clean out the cab mount, wire wheel what I could, and fog it with internal frame coating. These patches are much smaller than the other side. Used pieces of the floor from my parts truck to make the patches. There is some final welding to do on the bottom of the cab once I flip it on its back to undercoat the bottom, but for the most part the rust repair on the cab is pretty much done. Lots more to do to body work things, but this part is wrapping up.

Re: Hank - 63 C10 Build
Thanks Harald. I am just happy to move on to something else besides rust repair even though I have to come back and do more later. Need a change of scenery if you know what I mean.

Re: Hank - 63 C10 Build
I can understand you perfectly, I felt the same way when the finished truck is standing in front of you, all the effort is forgotten.
Regards Harald

Re: Hank - 63 C10 Build
That is great. Glad it is helping. I did the same thing. Poured over this site and others to learn as much as I can. But, I will say and although I have made some goofs, it is ok to just dive in an try it out.

Re: Hank - 63 C10 Build
On to the next part. I started to mock up the bucket seats. I bought these seats many moons ago, and they were the first "modification" I made to my 71 C10 when I was 16. Held on to them for all these years. They are rough and will be refurbished with new upholstery. I have probably been over thinking these, but the passenger side has been giving me fits. The sliders are not only different heights, but different lengths. Since this obviously were not made for a 63 C10, I needed to make a frame to install them in the truck. I made a mock up of the frame out of scrap wood before cutting expensive steel. Here is the start. I will post more pictures of the frame once I get to the steel part.

Re: Hank - 63 C10 Build
I got the frame for the seat tack welded together. I was finding that the seats are pretty beat up, and I want to have them reupholstered before I final weld everything together. I have a feeling they will sit a lot different once they are fixed.
With that part on hold, I flipped the cab on it's back to start working on the bottom. Hopefully this will be the last time it is in this position. I need to first finish welding the patch panel on the driver side and dress up a bunch of the weld seams. Next, I need to make a small patch on the passenger inner rocker that showed up after blasting and a small patch on the driver side front cab support. After that, epoxy, seam sealer, and undercoating. Stay tuned. |

Re: Hank - 63 C10 Build
Got the welding done and cleaned up most of the welds. More rust showed up as usual. I am starting to think I made a big mistake in patching the rockers instead of removing the entire rocker and seeing what was behind them. I am hoping more issues don't start to show up in the future. I do plan to keep this truck for a long time, so I might end up back into these areas in the future if things go bad. But I am hoping if I keep it dry, it will last a long time.

Re: Hank - 63 C10 Build
Another coat of epoxy, seam seal, and undercoating. Still have some touch ups from the undercoating, but the bottom is basically done.
