Longhorn Exhaust with a 396

I'm wondering what you Longhorn guys did to replace your exhaust. I would like a system as close to original as I can ger for it, but I can't even find the down pipes for the 396, besides an exhaust system that will fit. Like some of the other guys, I am concerned about trailering it to a local muffler shop and not be satisfied with the outcome. I would appreciate some ideas!

Did you try Napa?
I was in there awhile back, talking exhaust systems, and he showed me the Walker book.
Looked like you could order any piece of pipe for any application.
Worth a try.

Re: Longhorn Exhaust with a 396

I have tried them locally, and they could not get the down pipes and don't remember if they could get the rest of the system, being it is different from the 127" system. It is a couple miles up the road so i wll try again.
Thanks for the response.
I appreciate that.

Down pipes are all the same. The only difference would be an extra 6" of pipe in the system between the downpipe and the kick-up over the axle, for the Longhorn. My FiL had a new exhaust system put on his truck (now ours) in y2k, but it was a custom install at a muffler shop. The shop bent the whole system, is my guess.

Re: Longhorn Exhaust with a 396

When you say the down pipes are the same, are you saying the down pipes for a 396 Camero, El camino, and Truck are all the same? I think I will go to a couple of the local muffler shops in the area and talk to them and see what they have to say about making the whole system again. I will Check out Napa again also. If no luck with that I might just try to go with a 127" wheelbase system and add the 6" into it between the down pipes and the mufflers.
Thanks for the info Steven!
