1962 Surburban rear end lube and gasket

Hi all,
I need to change the rear end oil and gasket. The rear end is a mess with built up leaking fluid. I think it is the original rear end. My question is what weight fluid do I use and where do I find a new gasket? Just trying to get ready for next spring. I am planning on a trip to the Syracuse car show, but want to make sure the suburban is ready. thanks Al

I've always used 80w90. But you can use almost any conventional or synthetic 80w90 or 80w 140.

If your pumpkin is completely covered in goo, you probably need a pinion seal. On the cover, I've always just used RTV, no gasket.

Thank you. I will look at the pinion seal.

On the pinion seal if youve never done one before. Do some research on replacing the pinion nut correctly. You will want to make sure that it is on the same location when replacing.

I will look it up. It appears that it is leaking from the cover not the pinion.
