Driveshaft identification

So I bought this C20 DS years ago to swap into my 1/2 ton. Just finally getting around to figuring out some things. I have a C20 and this DS does not match my C20. Anyone have any ideas on why it has these weird ends to it? I'm assuming its older? Both my trucks are 66's. Obviously the slip shaft part is the same but what's that threaded end thing going on? Thanks
