56 chevy truck flooring

I am wanting to add floor covering and up the inside of the back cab to my 56 chevy truck. I do NOT have a gas tank in the cab. I'm not sure if I want to add a rubber flooring or an upholstered carpet so what did you add to yours, pictures please. I added a picture of mine to show what I've got now

Re: 56 chevy truck flooring

I have a 56 and I will say this. if it has ANY leaks or where water may get in go with rubber. If it is going to stay garaged and only good days out. Then carpet. If its sealed good (doors and wipers thru cowl) then carpet is good.

Re: 56 chevy truck flooring

for my 52 I made a 1 piece floor out of rubber roll matting like you get at the building supplies places. The stuff I got was diamond plate, but I installed it smooth side up. The diamond plate does print through a bit. To join sections I scraped the diamonds off, roughed up both surfaces and used contact cement. 3 years in the seams have worked out perfectly, the mat has held up well.

I wanted a floor I could use like a truck, I don't worry about wet, muddy or sandy boots. I sweep it out sometimes and wipe it down with a sponge if it starts looking too grungy. It'll never be in a magazine.

If I did it again I would not go one piece for entire cab, but leave a loose overlap seam just in front of seats. My truck lives outside and I did have to chase down a couple leaks, water that runs down goes behind the mat and pools on top of the insulation, It'd be easier to dry if I could flip the footwell area towards center. I have the same issue with my low trim level sonoma's 1 piece factory mat
