Chrome bumpers
Been a bit but I have a request for opinions.
My 56GMC needs a rear bumper, never had one. I have a painted front bumper I want to get chromed. (PS finding a chrome shop in western Canada is tough so if you know of one, lemme know . )Would you buy a chrome rear bumper or a painted one that I can get chromed at the same time as the front? Or should I just buy a chromed rear? Some chromes don’t necessarily match (some have blue hues etc). |

Re: Chrome bumpers
I would buy the painted one & have them both chromed at the same time. That way they should match

Re: Chrome bumpers
Have a look at Alberta Plating in Calgary. They are not cheap, but seem to do good work.
It's gonna cost you more to chrome a new painted bumper rather than buying a new chromed one. Maybe you can buy the new chromed rear bumper and bring in in to the Plating shop along with your painted front bumper and they can match it. Some sellers offer two chrome bumpers, regular and "show quality". https://albertaplating.com/ |

Re: Chrome bumpers
it appears that a lot of new chrome bumpers & grills from the usual suppliers need replating after a couple years, so re chroming a new one may be inevitable
I'd find a place and ask them about the cost difference of re chroming a new painted vs chromed one before you buy it. |

Re: Chrome bumpers
Seth does sell the best stuff he can get his ands on but right now shipping to Canada costs more in shipping and fees added on than the parts do with things that size.
I've known a number of folks from BC and Alberta who would make a trip to the states and buy and install parts, have complete exhaust systems put on their motor homes at the Midas muffler shop I worked at and have wheels and tires put on their hot rods during the local Big car show and spend some time vacationing and hitting a couple of car shows. There is nothing in the states where you might do that without personal connections without traveling a lot of miles.

Re: Chrome bumpers
I don't know if they are available for your truck but I went with polished stainless steel bumpers on my 53 3100. As far as chrome goes not all chrome is created equal. There is aftermarket or flash chrome that is on most production parts. It's thin. When I bought an OEM restored front grill for my 53 3100 I was given 3 options. $600 for standard chrome, $800 for heavy chrome, and $1000 for show chrome. I picked the heavy chrome and it looks awesome. I'm no expert that's just my limited experience.
