Unity Spotlight

Found an NOS unity spotlight and installation kit. Put it on my panel. Drilling the hole through the windshield post was a major pain. Be aware if you decide to add a spotlight.

I like it, some others don't. I think it is cool and will be very useful spotting those dim street signs at night.

later, BH

Re: Unity Spotlight

Good job installing it. How many watts is the bulb? I dig spotlights.

Re: Unity Spotlight

Very cool piece. Had one on a '65. It went to a board member on here in New Zealand.

Re: Unity Spotlight

Had one on the roof of my old 66 for many decades and loved it. Definitely on my list to add to the 65. Have a pair on my “brand X” truck that I use to explore the desert. Useful as offroad driving lights and for finding campsites after dark…plus great fun at the drive in!

For anyone considering adding one, Unity can supply vehicle specific mounting kits and installation templates that make drilling into your truck a lot less stressful.

Re: Unity Spotlight

This is an excerpt from the unity site; this is a modern version of the light for this application, not a vintage style with the top decoration.

The Unity 325 series post-mount spotlights feature a 6" halogen lamp which utilizes an hermetically sealed beam lamp rated at 160,000 candlepower, 12 volts, 50 watts and 100 hours lamp life. The lamp has a glass lens and reflector. The new designer-styled 325 series feature a head assembly made of high impact ABS with heavy-duty chrome finish. They are designed to complement both modern and classic vehicles, and provide long service life.

Where I had trouble was when I drilled with the .50 dia hole using the bushing I could not get the bit to start it's hole on the inner panel. That panel was at an angle to the bit and would not start because the side of the bit was rubbing on the innner panel and not the tip of the drill bit. So I made a brass bushing for a 1/8 bit and drilled through the inner panel. Then I enlarged the inner hole from the inside with bigger and bigger bits until I reached the required .50 dia.

The rest of the installation was completed using the Unity instructions. It's a bit of of work but worth it in my book.

Re: Unity Spotlight

looks good. The one on this 65, the outer was drilled but looks like the inner was "punched out" with a spike for lack of a better explanation. Ill have to get a pic
