47-59 Vent cables

How do you get the pull knob off the vent cable? I would like to replace it, as it has seen some wear, but I've never removed one.

Vent cable? I have never seen a cable on a Vent on and AD. There is a cable on Fresh Air heaters to work the air deflector.

The Top cowl vent is operated by a lever assembly as is the side vent on the drivers side.

The defrost cable knob doesn't come off as it is part of the cable and doesn't come off You take the nut off the back side and remove the cable and housing as a unit.

Mr48, thanks, and yes those are the reproduction vent cables for my 55 Cameo. I was trying to use the originals, as I like the "T" stand off the bolts under the dash better than the new ones. So, I wanted to remove the knob on the end of the cable to replace it. I tried to "unscrew" it and succeeded in snapping the knob off the end. That mistake caused me to rethink what I was doing, and I think I have it figured out now.

On my '49 I wanted a matching knob on the heater fan switch and the wiper switch.
So I cut the knobs off the shaft and very carefully drilled a hole into the side of the knob, threaded the hole and put in a small set screw. Works great. Just an idea.

there is also the epoxy trick to glue the knob onto the metal part. I would try to groove the metal part first though, just cuz thats how i am. lol.

The only reason I used a set screw is because the knobs have to come off first. The switches have to come out the back. Epoxy would work great on the cables. But only of you don't get them glued to the backing on the cable. Maybe pull the wire out of the sheath first?

I'd make sure the cables and vent doors are well lubed so your knobs don't pull off.

I like the set screw idea and definitely will lube the mechanisms.
