C/K20 or 30 Wheels
Any C/K20 or 30 owners out there running 17" wheels? I could use some help!
I'm looking for wheels for my 72 K20 and I would prefer to go with 17's and like the style of the Mickey Thompson Classic series; however, I'm having difficulty finding a manufacture that makes a 17" wheel with a compatible back space. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You Troy |

Re: C/K20 or 30 Wheels
Here's a thread to check out if you haven't. I'm running PY0 16 inch factory aluminum rims. But US Wheel has some 17 slot mags that I've been drooling over for years

Re: C/K20 or 30 Wheels
Thank you! The primary issue I seem to be having is finding 17s with a compatible backspace. My understanding is that the ideal backspace for these trucks is about 4 with a 4.25 maximum. Most 17s Im finding with the correct 8x6.5 lug pattern have a 4.5 or greater backspace. Id prefer to go with 17s; however, its starting to look like I may need to go with 16s or use at least .25 or .5 spacers if I really want to go with 17s.

Re: C/K20 or 30 Wheels
I have a 1970 GMC C2500 that was essentially all original. I put the PY0 16"x6.5" rims, with 4.875" backspace and 285/75r16. These rubbed on the steering box when turned all the way right. I then swapped a '71-'72 C20 front crossmember that was 1.5" wider. With the extra width I no longer had rubbing. With the wider width of the '71-'72 front end it should help as it essentially subtracts 0.75" of backspacing.
What rim size are you looking at? 17"x8", 17"x9", 17"x9"? This would play into backspacing. As far as actual fitment, I can't help you there because I don't have a K20

Re: C/K20 or 30 Wheels
Thanks for the info, that helps a lot. I haven't decided whether to go with 17"x8" or 17"x9", certainly nothing bigger.
Thanks again Troy |

Re: C/K20 or 30 Wheels
Thank you very much, that helps a lot! I don't really have any good options to test fit something before buying and have been hesitant to order something online and then have it not fit.
Thanks again Troy |

Re: C/K20 or 30 Wheels
I run 16x10 Mickey Thompson classic II’s on my K20 with 4.5” back space and 315/75/16’s. I can’t see how going from a 16 to a 17 would chance anything clearance wise on my truck. I don’t rub anywhere unless I have the front axle moderately articulated.

Re: C/K20 or 30 Wheels
Good to know, thank you very much! I wish I could find some M/T Classic II's, I've never rally been a fan of the M/T inprint on one of the "spokes" of the Classic III, I've always felt having the M/T on the center cap was enough; however, other than that, I love the M/T Classics.

Re: C/K20 or 30 Wheels
These wheels were on my 98 K2500 since they were brand new when the lift went on it in 2004. I only put them on my K20 2 years or so ago when I swapped the 98 to 20’s so I could put real 35’s on it. I too very much prefer the 2’s over the 3’s. The MT stickers came off the center caps easily 20 years ago so I haven’t even had them for a long time.
