72 c10 front upper shock mount replacement
I have a 72 c10 long bed fleet side with the 307/465.
The front upper shock mounts need replacing. Auto parts stores recommended the Dorman part number 31001. It does not work. Its diameter is too small for the existing hole in the frame. What are others doing to address this issue? Other part numbers? Vendors? Solutions? Also because the previous owner ran into the same problem and used the wrong fastener, the mounting hole in the frame is wallered out. What solution works to fix the oversized hole? Thanks all. |

Re: 72 c10 front upper shock mount replacement
My replacement shocks came with new mounts that fit perfectly.
I know many aftermarket shocks come with them. Are you sure the hole in the frame isn't worn out and larger than it should be? That is common. |

Re: 72 c10 front upper shock mount replacement
You would need to repair the frame to correct the hole size.
You can order the studs seperatly. https://classicparts.com/1963-91-sho...ww4srMl0CXH9vN There are also aftermarket shock mount supports you can install to help prevent it from happening again. https://classicparts.com/1963-72-sho...ckets-front-pr |

Re: 72 c10 front upper shock mount replacement
One of the mounts on my Burban were beyond wallered and other one had been welded in place by the PO. Since the truck was bagged the shocks were the bump stops. I installed some raised shock mounts along with longer shocks. The raised mounts are still working well now the truck is back to static springs in the front.
Just another option for you. I will admit drilling the holes for the raised mounts was a real pain. If I knew how easy it is to remove the inner fender wells at the time I would have done that to make installing the raised mounts easier.
