Vintage intake manifold ID
I posted something on here a week or so ago, asking if there was a way to ID an old intake...
well I FINALLY got numbers/pics of it. You can see, what apears to be a date code...2-2-61 Just above it, there is a number...9788349...if this number is the ID number, and it comes back as a bad one...I can double check the numbar again after bead blasting it...which I plan on doing if this sucker is worth something. You can see in the front of the intake, it has the old style oil filler..283/327 style. (I know more than just those motors were so equipped, just those are the ones we all relate to on here) There is also no bolt hole for the later style passenger side mount for the alt. This points out to me it is not a generic type replacement...if GM ever made such an animal. Also notice, for a stock intake, it is a bit of a high rise...a bit taller than my Performer intake that I just got. (Thanks Jamie!) This is a steel intake, and it has the rivited plate in the center underneath to prevent the hot oil from heating up the intake charge. Any one able to tell me if it might be worth something? |

Oh, on the first pic...it says GM-1 in between the asumed date code and assumed part number.

I had one on a 283 power pack engine (factory 4 bbl) that looked like that. I believe it was a 1960 Impala engine.

Can someone check this for me? It's a 350 intake made for a quadrajet carb. Here's the #'s on it:
3927184, then it says GM1 under that, and T under that. EDIT: I went ahead and checked some websites and I think it's the original manifold from the 350 that used to be in my truck. Ok, I just looked again, and the 3799349 is the correct number, and off to the right of that is an 'X' Something I forgot to post that is on there too, as the intake is mounted on the engine, behinde the carb a little to the drivers side from center...about 1/2 way to the distributor hole...'G 92' is also on there in the same way as the numbers posted in the pics above. |

I think you are right about the carb. It would be a smaller square bore pattern. Good for resto. John

Hmm, interesting. From the info given here, and assuming it is off of a 62 becouse of the possible date code, then it could be off of any car in 62 except the Chevy II and the Corvette. Acording to my books, all the other cars were avalible with the 300 horse 327 with an AFB on top.

I know where there is one of those I could get for free probably too. lol The whole engine is there actually, but its most lkely rusted into a solid peice.

The only #s I can come up with are the same 3799349 carter 4bbl. 62 64,No other #s are close ,but that date? I'm confused? I have a 283 in my 60 sedan delivery and the reason for the "no choke provision" is that on my 1960, there is a piece of 1/4 in tubing that runs from the exhaust manifold to the choke that transmits the heat for the choke spring. No provision on my intake either.

3799349 4-Brl 62-64 300hp AFB 327 Nothing to put it in an exact application. Post this on a vette board maybe?

the vette didn't get the 300 horse 327...only the 250 horse. (acording to my chevrolet by the numbers book)
