Where these factory options

Is this A/C? Was it a dealer installed option?

Are these still available and do they work well? This pic is out of a Burb I saw on Autotrader.

I've seen those before. Its definately add-on air, or aftermarket. Its definately not GM. I think it was sears my dad was telling me use to install lots of add on A/C units on cars years ago.

I don't know the answer to your question, but my air on my 72 is identical. My truck was bought new in Ontario, CA. The original owner had the air added on; whether through the dealer, Sears, or somewhere else, i don't know. Unfortunately my old huntin buddy passed away a few years ago.

Underdash air is fairly common. There were both dealer installed units (should have a GM logo somewhere on the unit) and aftermarket units.

As far as I know, there are not any "Factory" under dash units. "Factory" air-conditioning is the vents in the dash. The ones that are referred to as a factory under dash unit are typically the GM dealer-installed units.

Hope that helps.

Oh, I do believe you can still get them. You can also get (for close to the same price, I think) a kit that will get you the vents in the dash - with some dash cutting involved. I'd go with that route because then your passenger won't be kicking the unit, and it looks a lot 'cleaner'.

Try these guys www.vintageair.com. They have both under dash "universal" styles, and the kits to make it look factory (in the dash vents).

I have seen (may have been in 72 owners manual these). They were a GM dealer add-on. They also have an AC setup that sat on top of Burbs (and possibly blazers)
