New to the Game (need help)
I recently purchased a 1970 chevy truck 1/2 t. I am going to convert it from a man to auto trans. Could you please enlighten me as to what I will need to do this job (parts wise). Also will I have to have a double hump cross member to run duel pipes or does the standard cross member work ok? Thanks in advance for the help.

You need to figure out which trans you want to use first.

I will be using a 350 trans for the simple fact that I have one already. What is the most most economical way to go with the shift (floor or colum) really doesn't matter to me. I just want it to be right. I going to a swapp meet this weekend and I really only have a rough idea of what I need.

Get a auto cross member, auto steering column/linkeage, radiator for an auto for cooling will need cooling lines also. On the cross member I believe the manual tranny cross member will not work. Not sure on the rear driveshaft length either.

Drive shaft length is the same, the yoke is different. If you use the manual yoke, (it will fit), you will have tranny fluid run out all over you drive way. The manual yoke has some kind of a vent hole in the center. I found this out the hard way. Really messed up my driveway. The wife almost killed me.
The low hump will work, the cross member is the big difference. Removing the manual cross member is a pain. locating trans cooling lines give most people problems too. Watch for them at the swap meet or you can bend your own. Good luck...Kelly

You can't blanket say the driveshaft wil work without changing the length.
There are 3 different lengths of tailshafts on Th350 trans, 6, 9, and 12 inch. It depends on which length trans he has to use.

A lot of times it's cheaper to buy a wrecked truck with all the stuff you need for a hundred buck or so than to track all the stuff down.

I agree with brainshild on that one. If you have a complete donor, it helps out.
Oh, welcome from Central Mississippi.
