I'm begining to think that my truck is the poster child for obosolete parts!
The setup of my fuel filler seemed to baffle the guy at the Chevy parts counter.
1987 Long bed, fleetside, 16 gal tank on each side.

Here's the setup -- From the tank there is a short piece of 1-3/4" fuel hose molded at about a 30° angle. This attaches to a metal tube which extends toward the general vacinity of the fuel door with a 90° bend. Then another short section of 1-3/4" hose connects that to the filler neck that mounts to the side of the bed (fleetside). The vent hose parallels this setup with 5/8" hose/pipe/hose. The last section of the vent hose is sharply bent/molded at 90° and attaches to the filler pipe.
ALL the GM listings show rubber from the filler neck all the way to the tank. The only listing my parts man could find that listed upper and lower hose sections was for a 3/4-ton Stepside ?!?! Discontinued, of course.
I've tried LMC - Same as Chevy Dealer.
The rubber sections aren't cracked or rotted and I could reuse them, but I'm putting in new tanks and figured if I could get the parts

I'd use new stuff.

Anyone else have this setup or know where I can get the molded pieces? I got straight hose from the local NAPA, but the 5/8 hose won't make the tight bend needed without kinking.

I have a 85, shortbed, with dual 16 gallon tanks. I only have rubber going from the tank to the filler neck. My metal filler necd extends toward the tank app. 8", straight. Frome there is rubber which has one 90 degree bend in it. The straight section from the filler neck is around 7" and then the 90 degree bend to the tank.

Is your setup like you describe the same on both sides? Maybe someone has been doing some tank swapping and replaced some of the hose with metal tubing or something.

Don't worry. Your 87 is far from being a poster child for obsolete parts. They still have a ton of stuff to fit our 80's trucks. Now if it was in the 70's, then yes, OEM stuff is getting scare at the dealer.

sounds about like what mine had, now it has the 30 bend going straight up with the filler sticking out the bed.

Swervin - No tank swapping here...I've owned the truck since new. It's almost the same on both sides...the vent lines are different from left to right since they use the same tank on both sides and the vent is on the right side of the filler hole. I think the shortbed is a little different since the filler neck is closer to the tank (I think). My '87 was a transition year, so it has some weird stuff...last year of the body style, first year of fuel injection! The dealer tried to find rubber to go from the filler to the tank, but the pieces he had weren't nearly long enough!

Yeah, I never thought about that. I guess it being an 87 and a longbed makes a big difference. Looks to me though the dealer should have something to fit if it's a stock application.

Only odd thing I notice is the long bed and 16 gallon tanks--I thought all long wheel base vehicles had 20 gallon tanks??????????????

79Silv4x4 - According to the GM literature (yeah, I still have to brochure I ordered the truck from!), 16 Gal tanks came with the 1/2 tons long or short. (Of course, the dealer told me I couldn't get a tach either - I'm still mad about that one!) You needed to step up to 3/4 -ton to get the 20's. It could also be that since I'm feeding a V6, I got the smaller tanks. I was going to install 20's when I replaced them, but I'm running into enough headaches already...I didn't want to push my luck!

My 3/4 ton had two 16 gallon tanks on it, most I could ever fit in was about 60 litres, which converts to roughly 16 gallons.

that sounds about right, mine is 21 gallon and all i can fit is 21 gallons...

i have heard of some with 16 gal tanks that can hold 20 gals tho

Well, the shop ordered in some new tanks. 20 -gallon. So now, I have to see if I can make them fit! I'll post the results! (The place they ordered them from didn't show a 16-gal Longbed combo.)
