I'm back!! Finally back to work on the 68 (pics)
Whew! It has been a busy summer! Haven't hardly had any time to work on the truck or post here on the board. But, now that I am slowing down, I can get back to work on the 68.
Last night, I finished on of the custom items I had planned. Cutting out the center of the dash and weld in a solid piece. Next I will cut out for (in order from top down) a factory A/C vent, detachable face stereo, then a pull-out cup holder. I haven't decided what to do with the ignition switch just yet, and I need to leave room for the Vintage Air switch panel. Good to be back, and I hope to be posting more pics soon!!

This dash had already been hacked when I got it. It had a poorly installed cheap junkyard pull out stereo. Add to the fact that I wanted to install A/C, I decided to cut it out and start over. And since I am a non-smoker, I dodn't see the need for an ash tray.
And it's a touch different. I had thought about adding a small key switch just under the fold on the lower part, basically right under where the original switch was. A push button would be kinda cool!

Nice clean up on that dash. I was thinking ( being i want a newer style radio ) of making a brushe aluminum plate to fill the original mounting spot and then making brushed aluminum consoul to match the insturment bezle. lol. i like brushed aluminum.

Actually, I hope to have the engine, trans and rear end out of the 68's frame so I can get that frame out of the shop by next weekend. Then the GMC will come in to get the engine pulled, then I will put the rear end out of the 68 into the GMC. I think I will use the 3 speed that was in the 68 for the GMC, and I have the 327 from the 68 as well to put in it. All the other parts I need for the GMC should be able to be pulled from the 68's frame. When the snow starts flying, then I will be making some progress!!
