What to do with Chrome during Winter??

My truck will be put in storage very soon and this summer I spent some bucks for chrome. Like the air cleaner, Valve colvers, and some misc. parts and brackets on the motor. I don't really want to take everything off and bring it inside. The truck will be kept in a pole barn but no heat. What do I put on the chrome to keep it from rusting away? Any ideas would be great.

If you are that worried, I would try a thin layer of carnuba wax and leave it on, but do NOT start the motor and heat it up.

Maybe a layer of grease, again, just clean off with some degreaser before starting her up. Even a good squirt of a water repellant oil like WD40 will be better than nothing.

I had some chrome parts in my Z/28's engine bay for 20 years...........like core support,fender bars, air cleaner lid.........all removed now (the numbers matching thing). These parts were Moroso's stuff and they were all triple plated.
The nickel layer would oxidize through the chrome and I would have to polish it out every few years but rust was never a problem.
Just make sure you keep as much water as you can off these chrome parts and hit them with Mother's ever few years and you will be okay.

I've never tried this but a friend of mine told me that he used to spray Pam (thats right, the non-stick coating that keeps things from sticking in your pans) on his Cragar S/S Wheels in the winter. He said that they would get a little gunky (since he was driving it all winter), and he would have to spray them a couple of extra times over the course of the winter, but in the spring he would give them a good bath and they would come through unscathed. I thought I might try this myself since my Cragars aren't the best chrome plating that I've ever seen.

Don't spray WD40 on anything if you want to prevent rust.
The stuff will actually INDUCE rust over a long period of time. That stuff is almost worthless in a garage. I only say almost, becouse it'll hold papers down and block open a car door that don't wanna stay open.

Yes to the WD-40. I use them on my exhaust tips keeps them looking good as new.

Do you just spray a even coat of WD 40 on all the chrome pieces and leave it until Spring? Do I lay anything over the chrome pirces after spraying?

I'd spray, wipe it over to make sure everything has a good cover and then re-apply once a month maybe to make sure. The other alternative would be to get some rustproofing wax, we have a brand called "Waxoyl" here in the UK and spray a good coat of that on, it sprays on and then thickens to a waxy coating, come spring warm it gently and clean off with some turps or similar solvent. Better than WD40 as it's much thicker and you can see where it is and so make sure there's no gaps. Here you can buy it in a bulk pack or in rattle cans, one or two rattle cans would do all your chrome. I did the backs of my metal door panels with it when I re-upholstered them and will get around to doing the whole of the truck, box sections, inside of doors and rockers etc eventually.

I spray my Harley every winter with WD-40 & it works for me. I spray it until it drips though. 1 can per Harley per winter.
