Saddle color carpet and dashpad question.

I need to find true saddle color carpet for the floor and the cab back panel(bucket seat truck) and a dash pad . Most of the suppliers I noticed only say "brown". Does anyone make a good replacement "saddle" colored original loop set for my parchment interior?

Parchment is the off-white color. The saddle is a tan or brown color and the pads sold by the vendors here are a very close match to the original, likewise with the carpet.

Yes, all parchment interiors used off white door panels, seat belts seat upholstery, and headliner/visors. GM used a light brown-tan dash pad and carpeting with this interior color only.
Today this color is very similiar to the new GM truck "neutral" color interior.

The brown interior was optional to the Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super only in 71 and 72. It is darker and more brown and is used exclusively all throughout these interiors i.e. seat belts, door panels, carpet, visors headliner, dash pad, and the seat.

Trust me there is a very noticable difference in an original truck.
So does anyone know of a supplier of original style carpet in saddle (tan)? A dash pad could be dyed to tan color.

Sorry I misunderstood what you were talking about. Yes, I have seen the color you are asking about in original trucks. That color is not available. But I have a question: I have seen the top of the dash painted a matching color in some trucks. Was it standard to paint the dash the dash pad color in trucks with parchmnet interiors??

Ron
I have been around and owned these 71 and 72 pickups since they were new and I think I can answer that from what I have seen. GM painted the dash panel a flat color that coresponded with the installed dash pad color to eliminate glare. If I remember right it is was a safety issue that came about in the 60's that changed manufacturers to us flat colors or a vinyl dash to reduce winshield glare. Chevrolet made the change in the 1966 model pickups by painting the dash panel a flat mocha brown instead of all fawn as in the 65 and earlier years. They actually had done this back in the late fifties on pickups using a dark flat gray painted dash too.

I have seen every "factory installed" parchment interior use the saddle color dash with that color painted on the area next to the windshield.
I know my green truck has flat green painted there and the brown Cheyenne had it painted a brown color.
Another note is the steering wheel/column was also saddle and all standard columns matched the dash pad color unless it had a tilt column, which changed it to black only.
Sorry for the lengthy response and I hope it answered the question.

I can get the closed loop carpet in 4 different shades of saddle. We carry dark saddle (which looks a lot like brown to me) We carry the plain saddle wich is a whole lot lighter than the dark saddle and is definatly not brown. Then there is red saddle, which is just like the name implies (saddle with a reddish hew) And finaly a medium saddle wich is the lightest of the four (closest to tan) E-mail me if you think that I can help you. Hotfun, I purchased my new carpet (black) from C.A.R.S Inc. and they list "saddle" as one of the color choices. I haven't had a chance to install mine yet, so can't vouch for the fit, but the look is identical to the original 80/20 weave, loop pile, jute backed carpet that was original to the my truck - great price too.

BTW - their web site navigation leaves a lot to be desired, but if you are patient, you'll find the carpets section. It's under "Interiors".

I got my carpet from GMCPaul. I can't say that I know it fits because I don't have it in yet but the color/texture look exactly like the original saddle carpet minus the stains and wear. I just got regular saddle. It was dropp shipped from ACC (auto custom carpet) and I assume you could order direct from them also.

Honestly, with all this "help" what you are going to have to do is send a piece of the carpet to ACC directly, to have them match the color. They will also send you samples of close colors. Just give them a call. For some reason I have always called that color Sandelwood. Your use of the word saddle is confusing a lot of people. It did me at first too.

When you do find the correct color let us all know. Good luck.

Actually the old saddles off the horses around here are getting weathered so they don't look brown anymore. That color was called sandlewood from GM since you said that. Sorry about that. I don't see sandlewood listed but I will send in a sample of the carpet and get a ACC color name and # for it. I will let you know.
Thanks for all the good information here guys.

Love the smell of old saddles in the tack room early in the morning.

Maybe you have the carpet problem settled, but now you will have to deal with a dash. Unless you find a NOS you will have to paint one. Sems(sp?) is the vinyl paint I use. It would be hard to duplicate the metalic sheen. I am curious on how you handle this. Keep us posted.

There are several colors of dashes not reproduced yet. Maybe that would be a good project for this board to do. Start a campaign to get those colors reproduced. If there were enough people who said they would buy them then Dashes Direct might make them.
