HO 52/ 72 axle question

Will a 3/4 ton (HO52 I'm assuming) rear center section fit into a 1 ton (HO72 I assume) rear end?

Yes, the center section will interchange either way.
The most desired have an adjustable pinion load bolt to prevent deflection under heavy loads, found in both ho52 and ho72 axles.
As you know, not many "good" ratios available:
4.10, 4.57, 5.14, and a 6.36 (?).
3.90 was/is available aftermarket.
Many came with a factory "no-spin", a Detroit Locker. Some of these have a pretty severe action on the street, but are fairly bulletproof.

What the.... Those look like pretty good ratios to me! Not economy ratios for sure, but those diffs are usually in trucks that are made to work a bit harder than average... And of course, you can run taller tires...

Then what is the real difference between the H052 and the HO72?
Is the axle housing a little bit bigger or longer?
Axle shafts a little bit bigger or longer?

I think the only difference is the size of the brakes. H052 had 12" brakes and the H072 had 13" brakes. Although my 1970 chassis manual only talks about the pinion load bolt on the H072.
