Rochester 4 Barrel Carb Question

I have a 350 in my truck with a 4 Barrel Rochester Carb. If has been running horribly for as long as I've had it and may have just found out why. I compared it to another truck with the same carb. There both automatics and I noticed I'm missing a piece of metal that runs from the side of the choke and into the manifold. What difference would this (kickdown linkage?)
make in how the truck warms up and idles? Also if anyone has any pictures that would be great. Thanks
