Cab change, frame mounts
As part of the cab change we are redoing the frame as necessary prior to painting. The previous owner had repaired the frame frame mounts and his bird dropping welding on the repairs looked shaky. I made up some plates, (3 1/2 x 3 1/2 for the front mounts, 3 1/2 x 3 for the rear) with 1 1/2 holes bored into them. The plates are 1/8 thick. With my son's greatly needed assistance we repaired the four frame mounts.
We started by cutting out the old weld using a sawzall and air cutoff grinder. pic 1 shows what we cut out, some of the others were worse. pic 2 shows the cut out with the old metal removed and the area prepared for welding. pic 3 shows positioning of the plate ready for welding, (we located the plate using the center of the hole for reference). pic 4 shows the plate Craig welded and ground, ready for prime and paint.
