Licence plates

I got stopped by a highly observant cop the other day because my CA plates are those of a car. Turns out it was because it used to have a camper shell on top, and was registered accordingly. The cop was cool about it, and informed me. I don't think he really cared, he probably just wanted to give an FYI. He was surprised I'd been driving it for three years and I've never been stopped. Well, I learned something new, and it answered my question as to why my plates were different than all the other trucks. I really don't want to get a camper shell put back on nor do I want to get commercial plates, but since I'll soon be working for the police, I has probably fix it. I was thinking personalized, but I'd just as soon find a legal way to keep paying $50 a year with no smog.

I hate how the state trys to get money wherever they can, by screwing over honest young people like myself. I can't fault the cop, only the dumbass who wrote the law. Any advice would be great.
