Caddy troubles

in light of recent occurances I was wondering just what kind of things I should look out for with the Caddy swap. I dont want to have any troubles whatsoever after the thing is in & running. is there some secret mod for the oiling system? valve train issues? bearing clearance recommendations? anything? I much rather spend the time & money up front if at all possible. I am planning a complete rebuild of the 472. it is intended to be a daily driver with about 60% of its life being on the highway. I was thinking of a gear in the 2.56 range behind the TH400 to keep RPMs near 2500 @ 75 MPH. does this sound crazy?? I prefer to stay away from an overdrive because of the trouble I see with them. (I work on motorhomes) I want fuel mileage.
any & all feedback is appreciated.
