Replacing exhaust manifold gasket?

I got some gaskets from Napa which dont require you to take the manifold completely off. They just slip down over the bolts. I know they arent the best but better than hearing an exhaust leak. My question is, what is the best way to get in at the exhaust manifold? I have A/C and the side that is leaking is on that side. Should I attempt to remove the fender well and go at it that way? Or should I remove the A/C crap and try to get to the manifold from the top? Thanks for any advice!
