Disc brakes installed & bad neutral safety switch

I have finally finished on up the installation of an ECE disk brake kit on the ol' '69 GMC. I also rebuilt the upper & lower control arms with new bushings & ball joints. I pulled out the brake pedal to modify it per the instructions. That was a pretty tough job removing it from under the dash. When I finished it all up & put the truck back on the ground, it would not turn over the starter. I automatically assumed it was the starter. I pulled it the next day, after already ordering one. I found the solenoid wire had some exposed wire. I went ahead & replaced the starter & the bad wire. It still would not start. Then I unplugged the neutral safety switch & bypassed it with a jumper & BINGO!!
Could the switch have gone bad or is there an adjustment on it?

Please help, Rally Nova
