Tilt Column Re-build?

OK, like the search is down, and my Van tilt column is 1/2 apart on a mechanich's bench. He's not sure how one that old comes apart and ain't got the book. So I was hopin one of the Guru's here might might help out with a how 2 on how a mid '70s tilt comes apart. We got the signal light part out and one guy figures some split retainer might be a key component and whackin the bottom of the shaft with BFH might get things loosend up ( but I don't trust him) Anyways, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
