383 Stroker - Not Enough Power!
We just put a 383 Stroker in my son's 71 Cheyenne SWB. It has all the goodies, RV cam, Heads, Pistons, Headers, etc. And has been bored to .60 over. But like most kids, its not enough for him. We just had the heads redone with bigger valves, 1.94 to 2.02. Since the top end of the engine is apart, he wants to change it from hydraulic lifters to rollers. What do we need to change to make it a roller engine? Can we just replace the lifters and rocker arms with roller rockers and roller lifters? Or do we need to change cams and other parts too? Also how much more power could we expect to gain? It had about 400hp/425ft-lbs, before the head work.
Edit: Also does it make a difference between hydraulic rollers and solid rollers? Or is there a hydraulic cam out there that could give it the same power gain as changing to rollers, without losing too much streetability?
