Is it coincidence, or are these two problems related

The other night after I changed my spark plugs, I took my truck out for a run to see how it ran. I had also made some carb adjustments and what not, but that is irrelevant. I noticed when I was on the way back to the house, that the temperature gage had been spun all the way around way past the red, and then I also noticed that the fuel gage was all the way below E. I know it worked fine when I turned the truck around to do the work in the first place, so my question, are these two gages related in any way, maybe by fuse, wiring, etc? Let me know what you think. I have not had time to diagnose it yet, but maybe I will tinker this weekend.

Thanks
