ignition question

About six motns ago my truck wouldn't start & a friend of my dad checked it out and told me it was the ignition cylinder. He ran a wire fromthe dist. to the battery so I could move the truck. I had to remove the wire from the battery to shut my truck off. I bought the igniton cylinder and Ithink I can install it but my question is what do I do with the wire thats connected to the dist. I don't know if there was another wire hooked there or what. I just thought I'd ask the members their opinion on the diagnosis and the wire before i paid someone to install it.
