250ci long tube headers interference issues

Hoping someone can help me with this, I need to know if anyone has any advice on how to run long tube headers around the crossmember for the transfercase/transmission on a 250 I6 4x4. Not sure if the cross member is in the same place for a 2wd or not, but right now my headers dump out right infront of the cross member, not sure if I should try to go above or below the cross member.....being as its a 4x4, I would prefer to go above(ground clearance), not sure how much heat the dana 20 transfer case can take.

Also, due to this issue, currently running open headers, this is a first, is it normal to have a regular loud pop every 3-4 seconds? I have just installed a new carb, but I don't think that would cause this.....out of timing...correct timing for a 250?
