wiring issue

i have a cs130 alternator on my 454, almost new.. i hooked up the wiring as i read in a few articles.. it was a 4 wire alternator and i "converted" it to a 2 wire alternator.. one wire goes to the battery and the other wire goes through a resistor and then into my fuse block which its on a switched ignition hot. The other 2 wires are capped off. After hooking it up i ran the truck on and off for a total of about 45 miles, great no problems. The other night i started it up and showed no volts on the gauge. I tested the alt. with a volt meter and had no power coming of the recharge terminal..Now im sorda baffeld because I re-wired the whole engine. Havent got to the cab wiring yet but i dont think that should make a difference with the charging system.. any help?? anybody experienced this??
