heater hose placement

Radiator went bad today and have a replacement but it doesn't have the heater hose nipple on the radiator like current one does
Need to hook up one heaterhose to waterpump instead of the radiator.
Does it matter which port I use on the water pump?
There is a side port and a top port. I would prefer to use the side port but it is a square plug end and after this long I am not sure if it will even come out.
The top port has a reducer and a plug that I amm sure I can break loose.
Are they both ouputs cause the other hose goes into the top of intake manifold
