TH350 - which kits to buy?
My '70 died over a year ago. Since then, I bought an '02 for my daily driver and took the '70 off insurance. So, I'm in no hurry to get it fixed. But I've been itching to get back behind the wheel lately.
I still get out there and start it up every now and then to let it run, but the transmission won't engage at all. Reverse was the first to go, a couple years ago. When we dropped the pan to check out the fluid, it was full of metal shavings and such. Now, all forward gears, as well as reverse are gone. It won't even make a noise when I shift gears. I've never rebuilt a tranny, but want to try. Since I'm not relying on driving this truck soon, I figure I can learn on it. My questions concern what kits I need to buy to rebuild it. I've heard B&M aren't that great. What about Hughes? or TCI? If you can give me a link or part#, that would be great. What all does the kit need to include? A list would be great so I can compare it to the kits' list of parts. Also, I'd like to get a shift kit to install. I did find a TCI rebuild kit w/ shift kit on Summit for $209.95. Part # TCI328800. It includes: gasket & seal kit, clutches, steels, forward bands, adj. modulator, filter, drain plug kit, trans-scat valve body mods. I don't see anything about bushings. Is this a quality kit for the price? Would I then just buy a bushings kit? Almost forgot application. This truck is just a cruiser. The engine is a mild 400sb. It's got 3.07 gears. Never sees the strip, and at the moment isn't a daily driver. Someday I'd like to overhaul the entire thing, but I've got more important projects to take on first ('69 GTO that is in dire need of a frame-off). Y'alls help is much appreciated. Thanks.
