help need input

i'm new to the board and i am have a 72 c10 two wheel drive. an i am having problems getting my engine to start. when i got the truck it did not have a carb, alt. and the wiring was all screwed up me and a friend rewired it by the book and put a new distributor, carb, intake, spark plugs, wires and etc.. and when we go to start it we get a fireball shooting out of the carb. we checked the timing of the distributor and everything else but the timing chain and that is the last resort. if you have any inputs on what might be wrong please let me know thank you.
