3 speed shift arms

I am trying to put my shifter back on the column. I got a set of shift arms from a member. I have an old chevy mechanic helping me and he says the arms are too short. How many different lengths are there? I am also needing a set of shift ears that go on the transmission. I have a saginaw with a hurst floor shifter in it now. To me one of the best parts of driving these trucks is shifting them on the column.
